Life Updates
Since my last Weeknotes update, I’ve left [redacted location] and arrived at my new catsit. I’m in Denver for the rest of the month! The cats here are adorable (as always) and the apartment I’m staying in is really nice; the owners are kind and let me come early and stay a few extra days, which was great for me because I saved a bit on accommodation money.
I’ve now been here with the cats alone for a week and I’m really enjoying the whole experience. I’m in a residential area and it’s super fun to walk around looking at all the interesting houses and the trees slowly dying for the winter. I’ve been going out nearly every day just wandering around (in a borrowed fleece jacket because it’s been fairly cold (for me)) with a few occasional forays into the rest of town.
I’m a little annoyed that most (all??) of the museums here have a fairly high entrance fee ($10+ minimum). Of course yesterday was free museum day and I totally forgot…
Media Consumption
๐ Finished My Love Affair with England, a travel memoir which I enjoyed a lot. Started Confessions of a Concierge which is a biography/pseudo-memoir about life in early 20th century France. It’s written by a historian who interviewed her, but the first part is in first-person POV which is a little strange.
๐ฎ Playing a lot of Animal Crossing: New Leaf on the 3DS this week. I’m working on expanding my house, which means paying off huge loans to Tom Nook, which then leads to nightly beetle hunting on a tropical island (they sell for big money in the village).
One thing I miss about AC: New Horizons (on the Switch) is the updated item interaction styles– like, it’s MUCH easier to change outfits in ACNH because you can actually see the item before you put it on. Same with furniture: the sprites are the actual item. In ACNL, everything is a leaf icon!
๐บ Watched The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley (2019) which is a documentary about Theranos. It was pretty good; it went to the trouble to explain why and how they were able to scam people for so long, the psychology of it all, etc. It came out before Elizabeth Holmes actually went into prison and it doesn’t interview her directly, just uses footage from other interviews she did, so it’s a little outdated now.
Also watched The Rise and Fall of Lularoe (2021), a documentary about the MLM scam Lularoe (of course). I think perhaps the Amazon Prime doc, LuLaRich (also 2021), is a little more engaging, BUT this one goes more into the psychology of why people get sucked into MLMs specifically with a Christian American angle which I thought was really interesting.
And finally, I watched Call Me Miss Cleo (2022), a documentary about the TV psychic. The topic interested me a lot, but they chose some weird angles for this doc. They included two actresses as talking heads, who never interacted with Miss Cleo or even met her (but both played Miss Cleo pastiches on TV). And they admit they know nothing about Miss Cleo except what she told people, and she told people different things.
They DID interview some people who worked for the company Miss Cleo did, and one of the lawyers who sued that company (and Miss Cleo). And they found some people who knew Miss Cleo before she was Miss Cleo, but even they didn’t know her personal history!
So overall a fairly uneven documentary and I don’t recommend watching it unless you REALLY want to know about Miss Cleo via her group of (all white, and that was emphasized by the African-American talking heads) friends.
Food & Dining
I’m one block away from a Krogers store and yesterday I discovered their fairly extensive discount bakery section. I got a whole tray of cream cheese-frosted cinnamon rolls for $2.80!

Looking Forward
I want to get downtown this week. The homeowners let me borrow their electric scooter, so I want to take it down one of the river trails which connects right to the Union Station area. I’m a little nervous on the scooter still, because I hate riding in the street, but there’s enough bike lanes here that I think I can put together a route that’ll keep me safe(r) without having to detour too much.
