πŸ“ weeknotes (sept. 14-20, 2025)

Life Updates

Well, that was a longer gap than I meant to do! From my last update to now:

  • have left my Ann Arbor catsit
  • flown to California to visit parents and sat in a SoCal heatwave for a week
  • bought new suitcase, repacked items, swapped out clothes, etc.
  • flew to new catsit in undisclosed location (in the Western part of the US, anyway)
  • settled into new catsit for about a week, then
  • became vaguely ill for a week and
  • only now picked up laptop and felt energetic using it

I’ll do a more precise (friends-only) catsit update to introduce y’all to the new kitties, but overall I’m really enjoying this new location– though I miss the garden from Ann Arbor! I do have a balcony with a view of the river with an enormous amount of ducks here, though.

Media Consumption

πŸ“Ί The catsit has Netflix access WITH a guest profile already set up, so I’m working my way through my queue. I’m on the third episode of Turning Point: The Vietnam War which despite its unfortunately similar name to an extreme right wing group is a very fair and detailed insight into the Vietnam War and the people affected by it. They even interviewed members of the “Viet Cong”!

πŸ“– I have been reading a prodigious amount of Star Wars fanfic this week and trying to balance it with a non-fiction travel memoir I picked up from a nearby Little Free Library, but the fanfic is winning.

Some favs: (and now I lay myself down) and hope I wake up young again by cjwritesfanficnow; our caches and constellations by johanneb; Our Radiant General (Peace Be Upon Him) by Nanaille; Paternal Relations by willowcrowned

Food & Dining

The owners have a fancy coffee machine that worked for a week and now refuses to dispense the proper amount of coffee, so I need to troubleshoot it. For now I’m resorting to using a Keurig.

I’ve switched to soy milk from dairy for no reason than a vague idea about being healthy and while the first few days were rough on the guts, eventually it smoothed out and now I like it. It make excellent frothed milk for coffee in the partially-working coffee machine!

Web Updates

I had to lock down my main site because of robots, and figured I might as well use this time to switch everything over to HTML/CSS anyway. I’m maybe 1/4th of the way done? It’s actually going pretty fast, since I can search-replace the Docuwiki formatting for HTML, and the rest is just stylizing pages within my layout. I plan to go back later and make it nicer, with more links and decor and whatnot but for now I just need to get the pages built.

Feeling weirdly bereft without my site, so I’m hoping to get it finished to a point where I can open it again by the end of the month. πŸ™

Looking Forward

I haven’t been outside much this week so I’d like to get back to doing daily walks and exploring the area.
